The Kobe Port Opening Exhibition was held from September 20 through October 31, 1930, coinciding with and briefly overlapping the Grand Fleet Review the weekend of October 25-26.

The exhibition was in celebration of the opening of the port to foreign trade on the eve of the Meiji Restoration in the final year of the Tokugawa bakufu in 1868, establishing Kobe as one of Japan’s principal ports.

The technology on display represented Japan’s swift progress and rapid industrialization that began with the Meiji Restoration in 1868.
