“The history of Azabu Church started when a Methodist missionary named Rev. Davidson Macdonald purchased land around Azabu Nagasaka-cho in the autumn of 1883 and, in 1884, founded Toyo Eiwa Gakko, and, in 1885, built Azabu Chapel as a place for students to learn more about faith and foster a spirit of social contribution. By around 1894, students of Toyo Eiwa Jogakko established the educational institute, Keifu Gakko, for children of poor families at Ipponmatsu in Azabu.”
